Active Travel Group (www.activetravelgroup.co.uk) is at the forefront of developing sustainable travel programmes for all its brands.

‘Ski Solutions’ is constantly developing product to bring clients greener choices, from reaching the mountains via train to highlighting the resorts leading the way with their green initiatives. They also work with Protect Our Winters to support their work in accelerating the transition to a carbon neutral society; and have also partnered with Mossy Earth to offset our flights through tree planting initiatives.

‘Cycling for Softies’ and ‘BSpoke’ support local communities, working with local business owners and suppliers, encouraging their clients to stay in family-owned hotels and dine in independent restaurants. Almost all of its tours in France are accessible by rail. 30% of clients choose the greener option of travelling to their destinations by train, thereby reducing their carbon footprint by up to 90% over flying. ATG partner with World Bicycle Relief, who work to provide children in rural communities with durable bikes, so distance doesn’t have to be a barrier to education. Furthermore, whenever ATG purchases new bike equipment, it donates redundant equipment to local businesses and charities.

‘Wilderness Group’ is a clear market leader in sustainability. It has twice won the Best Green Tour Operator in the World Travel Awards. For over 15 years it has held a Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme – recognised as the world’s most credible Sustainable Tourism Programme. In January 2020 Wilderness were one of the founding signatories to Tourism Declares a Climate Change Emergency, committing to a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. Since signing the declaration, it has chosen to go further by adopting science-based emission reduction targets, with the aim of achieving “True” Net Zero status by 2030.
