The global research sector is undergoing significant and accelerating change. In the pursuit of greater efficiency, the way in which projects are funded, published and evaluated is being overhauled. With over £150bn* invested annually in research through universities worldwide – much of this funded by taxpayers – innovation is needed to improve the return on this expenditure; effective communication of research results is central to this.
Launched in 2014, Kudos serves around a quarter of a million researchers, with over 10,000 universities and other research institutions in 190 countries active on the Kudos platform. Having built a central data set of dissemination actions and results, the company is well positioned to develop algorithms for clients to maximise the influence and impact of their academic work. As a result of the current investment, Kudos aims to expand the research data it collects and interprets, to give researchers, institutions, publishers and other stakeholders greater insight into the most effective means of communication for engaging target audiences with research.
Jane Reoch, who led the deal for Mobeus, says, “Kudos helps academics, governments and grant councils to accelerate and track the reach of, and engagement with, the research they fund. We are very excited about backing such a high-calibre team with first-mover advantage, unique experience and the potential to disrupt the way in which academic research is communicated and evaluated.”
