The Business

G=mc2 provides technology-enabled, strategic consultancy to owners of iconic global brands, including Unilever, Danone, Harman and Mondelez. The business is positioned to benefit from strong market tailwinds, as leading brands increasingly invest in data-driven decision-making and are able to derive intricate cultural insights from social media. This is powered by a proprietary AI platform – Visible – which helps clients understand what consumers are thinking today and how to position and innovate their brand for the future.

The Deal

Mobeus invested £15.8m for a majority stake in G=mc2, to fund continued expansion and international growth. As part of the transaction, Mobeus introduced a new Chair and CFO to the business, to support G=mc2 growth strategy and operations.

The Plan

With Mobeus’s support, G=mc2 plans to expand internationally, with the opening of a US office to unlock new customers and opportunities. Additionally, growth will be driven by expanding delivery capabilities and client relationships, through strategic new hires. To support this growth, investment in systems and processes will bring structure to marketing, BD and account management to support scalability across a larger client base.

The Deal

Mobeus invested £9.5m in a combined debt and equity package to become a significant minority shareholder in Ellis, and support the strategic growth of the business. Mobeus has introduced Rebecca Grattan as Chair of the company.

The Business

Intralink enables western companies to expand in Asia, Asian corporates to harness the power of international innovation, and governments to grow their exports and attract foreign investment. The company’s mission is to accelerate clients’ growth, innovation and green transition through cost-effective, results-driven global engagement.

For many export-oriented technology firms, Intralink’s teams and networks on the ground present a highly attractive way of cost-effectively accessing distant, fast-growth markets.
The Deal

Mobeus invested £19.6m in a combined debt and equity package to acquire a minority stake in and support the strategic development and growth of the business. Mobeus will support Intralink’s existing management team, led by CEO Greg Sutch.

The Plan

Mobeus’s investment will enable the business to extend its coverage further across Asia, with plans to expand in the ASEAN region and Indian sub-continent, whilst building on its expertise in B2B tech and sustainability. Mobeus is able to leverage its deep expertise in developing human capital-focused businesses in support of these plans.

The Impact

The Business

Access is a fast-growing, international public policy firm that advises many of the world’s largest technology companies on matters ranging from data policy to infrastructure regulation and compliance.

Access is positioned at the heart of regulatory and technology change and has a deep understanding of both policy and technical aspects of dataflows and data delivery systems.

Headquartered in London, the business manages its international service offering from offices in the US, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. This operational scope enables Access to serve its world-leading multinational client base wherever their policy needs arise.

The Deal

Mobeus invested £13.1 million for a minority stake in the business, which has experienced rapid growth, with revenues doubling over the previous three years.

The Impact

With Mobeus’s backing Access and its team grew both organically and through acquisition. During the investment term, in addition to a £7 million refinancing, Mobeus helped Access to complete two bolt-on acquisitions in Singapore, adding c. £1.5 million to profits. This resulted in a doubling of the business in headcount to 120 people, and growth in revenues from £11 million to £25 million.

The Realisation

Less than three years after the investment, Mobeus sold Access to Mayfair Equity Partners, a well regarded UK mid-market private equity firm. The sale delivered a 4.4x MoC and 64% IRR return for Mobeus 1.

Mobeus sold Tessella, a technology and consulting business, to Altran Group generating a 42% IRR.

The Sale

We sold Tessella to Altran Group, a €2 billion French based multinational for an undisclosed price. We generated a 2.9x multiple of cost and a 42% IRR on the deal. The shareholders including Mobeus have also retained the fast-growing data archiving part of Tessella’s business, a separate entity called Preservica.

The Impact

At the time of the exit, Tessella reported revenues of £26.5 million, up 43% from the time of the 2012 buyout. Oxfordshire-based Tessella was founded in 1980 and has gone on to become a global business, with offices now in the Netherlands and the US.

The Original Deal

We originally backed Tessella in 2012, when we invested £5.6 million as a combined debt and equity package to back the £16.7 million MBO of the business. Mobeus introduced Dr Steve Curl, a Mobeus Operating Partner, as Chairman.

The Business

Kinneir Dufort (“KD”) is a design and product development consultancy which delivers world class innovation services for leading Medical, Consumer and Industrial clients around the globe. Based in Bristol, the team provides outsourced design and innovation services to global multinationals including Roche, AstraZeneca, Unilever, Coca Cola, Thales and Sony, as well as scaling start-ups.

The Deal

Mobeus invested £5.8 million to support the MBO of Kinneir Dufort in 2016. Mobeus secured the deal by demonstrating a thorough understanding of the design process whilst taking a commercial view on the wish of the majority of the previous shareholders to retire from the business immediately on completion.

The Impact

With Mobeus’s backing, Kinneir Dufort advanced its internal systems and processes to enable the business to scale efficiently, expanded its management team and widened its client base.
